Do the following in this order:
- Read pages 107-140 (including chapters 9-11) in John Ortberg's Soul Keeping.
- Watch the 22 minute #4 video lecture "The Practice of Grace" on the Soul Keeping DVD.
- Answer the following questions (Your answers should be long enough and complete enough to convince me that you understand the reading and the video -- AND are trying to apply it to yourself. If there is something you don't understand say so in your answer.).
1. What are the four stages of the cycle of grace?
2. What does Ortberg mean when he says, "There is no need to impress because you have already been accepted by God"?
3. Practically speaking, what does the "with God" life look like?
4. Step outside yourself and look at your life. Ask yourself if it is healing to be with you? (If you have trouble stepping outside yourself ask someone you know, "Is it healing to be with me?") Why or why not?
5. What does Ortberg mean when he says that "Significance is a gift -- not an achievement"? What are the practical implications of that idea?
6. What is the role of solitude in helping us realize our significance?
7. What is the cycle of works and how does it relate to the cycle of grace?
8. What is the difference between embracing a life of unhurried solitude and a life of laziness?
